Kevin Graham, 'Tics player/coach
Kevin Graham signs for 'Tics
Former Muratti centre-half and semi-professional Kevin Graham has signed for Guernsey Athletics in a player coaching role. The 32-year-old said it has taken something special to entice him away from St Martin's, the only other club he had played for locally.
‘Like all people who love the game, I'm disappointed that football seems to be losing ground to other sports in terms of interest, participation and achievement. I'm happy to help anyone who wants to try and improve the game locally which is exactly what the team of people behind with the Tics are trying to do. I think there is a lot of sporting talent locally - you only need to have a look at what other sports are achieving on a national and international stage to recognise that. ‘With the excellent work that is going on in the junior game, the foundations are being laid, and this plan will hopefully keep more talented footballers in the game by giving them more options as they progress into senior football. Having been fortunate enough to see at first hand the competitive opportunities that exist in the UK, I'm certain that by opening up more opportunities in the UK to local players, we can improve the standard of the local game and maybe get some of our best players into the professional game. I think we've got to give local players something more to aspire to.’
